Aledo Invitational Solo and Ensemble ContestAledo Middle School Campus By now your student should have a solo time assigned if they have paid the $6.00 entry fee that was due by January 12th. We have been accepting late entry fees (this has been difficult).Students will need to dress nicely for this competition. A polo shirt and khaki's would be nice for the guys and a skirt and blouse would be nice for young ladies. The judge will be impressed with students who take this competition seriously. Students need to be warmed up and checked in with the room monitor at least 10 minutes prior to their assigned solo time. Some rooms will be running ahead of schedule and some will be running behind. Please be as flexible and patient as possible. Not all soloists have invested in Smart Music and therefore they may not have accompaniment for their solo. Accompaniment is not required for this contest. There are 4 Smart Music carts available for check out from the Library. Students who are not comfortable using Smart Music by themselves (there will not be a director available) should opt not to use Smart Music. Results should be posted within 30 minutes of performing in the Cafeteria. Mr. Qualls is coordinating all Middle School soloists. If you have questions or problems on the day of the contest, he should be available to help.

| We need a few good desserts!

The judges and visiting directors will be having a luncheon in the AMS Library at noon on Saturday, February 4th. I need a few of my good cooking parents to provide desserts. If you are willing to make a tasty treat for our judges, please give Mr. Ganus a call or let him know via email. Desserts should be dropped off at the AMS Library before 11:30 a.m. Thanks!!!! (I'll let you know my favorites!!)

Just a reminder...The balance of the Schlitterbahn trip is due by March 1st. The total cost of the trip is $100.00.There was a statement of account mailed out in early January. Directors will hand out another next week. Trip itinerary and details will be in the March newsletter. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Ganus (817) 441-5197 or simply send him an email.

Once solo and ensemble is over, we begin the next exciting phase of musical competition. The University Interscholastic League sponsored Concert and Sight-Reading Contest will be held on April 11 & 12, 2006. We will be taking three bands again this year. Look forward to fantastic things from your MS Concert bands. Sectionals... have already begun for the Concert 2 band and will begin next week for the Concert 1 band. We will handle sectionals during class time with Concert 3. Concert 1 band members will receive their sectional schedule today (Wednesday, February 1st). Please try to adjust your schedule to make each of these sectionals. We want our bands to do well at contest and small group work...this is the key. At Home... you should be hearing your kids work on these pieces. There are some very challenging passages in our contest music. Each of our students must do their part if we are to be successful as a band!
