Did You Know?
Solo And Ensemble

It takes 60 parents each working 1 shift to make the Aledo Middle School Solo and Ensemble Contest work? We will have over 1,000 young kids come into our school looking to make a good impression on a judge. Our parents' kindness and helpfulness always make this a fantastic opportunity for these little lights to shine. Please contact Mr. Ganus and volunteer for a shift on February 3rd.

1st shift
8:00am - 12:00 noon

2nd Shift
12:00 noon - 5:00 pm

Husband and wife teams can take one room for the entire day (each take a shift).

Clean up begins at 5:00 pm and we could use help getting this entire campus looking like a school again when this HUGE contest is over.

Thanks!

-Mr. Ganus

Solo and Ensemble

Aledo Solo and Ensemble Contest
2007

All of our middle school musicians should be working hard on their solo for this contest. Each solo issued this year has an accompaniment available on the Smart Music system.

Students will be assigned a performance time later in January. Each student will be given approximately 5 mins. with a judge to perform his/her solo. The Judges will then rate each soloist on the following scale:
I - Superior - awarded a first division gold medal
II - Excellent - awarded a second division red ribbon
III - Good

Directors will be listening to soloists work on their pieces through the month of January. Please make sure that your child is spending time on this very important individual competition.

PARENTS...

I need your help!!!

The success of this contest is in your hands. Aledo Middle School will host approximately 1,300 young musicians from this area at this contest. We need parents to make this happen. Parents are used to help get the kids in and out of the rooms. The work is rewarding and so many of these kids need to see a smiling/friendly face.

We operate this contest in two shifts...
8:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
12:00 noon - 5:00 p.m.
(even better if you can do both shifts!!)

If you are able to volunteer, please contact Mr. Ganus
(817) 441-4197
or simply reply to this email.

Notes From Mr. G

What a wonderful year we are having. I have to say that I am very pleased with the progress of all of our bands here at the middle school. Here is a little progress report for each class:

MS Beginner Band: This year we have a small beginner band class of 7 kids. These guys are working very well and will be great additions to our concert bands next year.

Developing Band: This class is doing much more than it was designed to do. This band was designed to help kids who love band but cannot play their instrument. Well, these kids are not only making music well...but we are playing well together as a band. I really enjoy teaching this class. I know that some of these kids are working hard to develop and achieve. I'm very proud of their hard work.

Concert Band: What a wonderful time I'm having as director of the concert band this year. I have to say that we have come a long way in one year with this band. This will be our second year to take this band to UIL Concert Contest in April. I know that they will do well. I'm very proud of the kids in this class.

Challenger Band: Mr. Qualls is doing a great job with this band! So many of the sounds I hear in this class sound like my top middle school bands in the last few years. Beautiful sounds along with smart kids makes for a fantastic band! So many of these kids will go on to be leaders in the MS Advanced Band or even the AHS Band next year!

Advanced Band: I really am enjoying the top middle school band this year. We have gotten off to a good start and are really challenging ourselves to do great things. This band can look forward to one of the most aggressive musical programs that Aledo Middle School have ever attempted this spring. I hope that they will be up to the challenge! (I know that they are :-)
