Did You Know?
Music and the Brain
The latest findings, presented at a meeting of the Society for Neuroscience in Los Angeles, underscore how music--as an almost universal language of mood, emotion and desire--orchestrates a wide variety of neural systems to cast its evocative spell. "Undeniably, there is a biology of music," said Harvard University Medical School neurobiologist Mark Jude Tramo. "There is no question that there is specialization within the human brain for the processing of music. Music is biologically part of human life, just as music is aesthetically part of human life."

UIL Cafe Concert March 27th 6:00 p.m. Aledo High School Auditorium This is our annual Pre-Uil concert where parents get to hear what we have been working so hard on since January. This is one of our finest concerts of the year. Our music is polished, and we will even have judges present to give us feedback in preparation for the actual contest on April 11th & 12th. Here are the details for the evening... Tuxedo Unforms (please make sure they are clean and looking nice) Black shoes and socks (required) 5:30pm Concert 3 - Warm-up (on stage) 6:00pm Concert 3 Performance Concert 2 Warm-up (Band Hall) 6:30pm Concert 2 Performance Concert 1 - Warm-up (Band Hall) 7:00pm Concert 1 Performance Special Treat!! The middle school bands will also be demonstrating the process for Sight Reading. This is one of the two major portions of our UIL Contest. At the contest, we perform our concert on stage and then we go to the Sight Reading room. We will be given a brand new (never before seen or performed) piece of music, and with only a few minutes to explain and discuss the piece, we perform it for a panel of judges. This will be the first time that we have attempted sight reading for an audience. It will be a special treat for you to see (hopefully!)

Some of you are making a good effort to have your kids here for sectionals each week. These small group sessions are great for us to really focus on the details of our UIL Contest music. We have permission from the coaching staff to begin to pull our band kids from track practice once a week for their sectionals...so all conflicts should be solved by the end of this week.Sectionals will continue through March and into April.
