Region Band Auditions

The middle school band will be competing in the TMEA Region 7 Middle School Honor Band audition process on Saturday, November 11th. The region honor band auditions will select the members of the Region Honor Band. This amazing group of talented kids will rehearse and perform a concert over the weekend of December 8 & 9. In two days time, the best band students from across the area (from Ft. Worth down to Brownwood) will meet with a professional music educator and will rehearse a number of fantastic pieces of music. Then they will perform a concert that will amaze you! Being selected for the Region Band is such an honor. Aledo Middle School will send about 115 kids to this audition. We have been working very hard for these auditons and are confident that we will do well.

This will be an all day event for some. See itinerary below for the day's schedule.

7:30 a.m. Busses Leave AMS
(students will wear their black band polo and jeans)
8:00 a.m. Arrive at Acton Middle School - see website for map
(students will unload and will be in the cafeteria warming up)
9:00 a.m. Auditions Begin
(students will audition in a random order)
1:00 p.m. Early Bus returns to AMS
(students that have completed their audition may ride home on this bus)
8:00 p.m. Final Busses return (estimate)
(students on this bus will know their results)
10:00 p.m. Results will be posted on Aledoband.com

Parents may pick up their kids at Acton Middle School once they have completed their audition.

Kids must be signed out with the band parents on duty.

Help Wanted!

The Aledo Middle School Band needs new chairs and stands. The current equipment that we are using actually belongs to the High School Band. As their numbers grow, mostly my fault, they are to the point where they need their stuff back. To purchase new equipment for the MS Band Hall, we will need about $10,000. So now we need a way to earn that money.

CONCESSIONS!

There will be a number of play-off games held at the new Bearcat Stadium in the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas. The Aledo Band Boosters have been given the concession for all of those games. If we can stock the concession stands with AMS Band Parents, the Band Boosters will let us keep the money for our band hall equipment. We have the potential to make $2,000 + each game. There will be around 8 games held here.

Concessions at the new stadium are really quite easy. The stand will need only a little set-up, and there is little to no clean-up involved. I need parents to work the registers (you will be trained by Tina Holt) and other parents to make hot dogs, popcorn, nachos, etc.. If I can supply 40+ parents for each game we will be in great shape.

Would you be willing to donate a few hours to improve your band hall?

If you would be willing to work one of these play-off games... please send Mr. Ganus an email with your name and a contact phone #. I will pass that off to Tina Holt, Aledo Band Boosters Concessions Coordinator, who will contact you for the best time and date for you to help. Working the concession stand can be a ton of fun if you want to gather a group of friends and do it all together. Please help me out...I cannot make that many nacho's by myself.

Uniforms

Concert Band Uniforms
Go home
November 27-30

Adjusting the hem...
You will need to adjust the hem of the tuxedo pant to fit your child's height. Please make sure you do not cut off the extra hem material. These pants will have to be used for many years and for a variety of kids. Also, avoid using a fuseable interfacing (iron-on hem tape) to keep the hem in place...this stuff is hard to remove and is not a very temporary solution.

Uniform Pieces...
The following pieces are included in your uniform:

  • Tuxedo Pant (dry clean only)
  • Tuxedo Vest (dry clean only)
  • Tuxedo Shirt (launder - heavy starch)
  • Black Bow Tie (not included in saxophone uniforms)
You will need to purchase BLACK Dress Shoes and socks to complete the uniform.
You don't have to spend a fortune on these...any discount black shoe will be fine. Make sure you have black socks. No high heals and no athletic shoes. There is no appropriate style of Crocks for a concert band uniform.

If there is a problem with the fit of your child's uniform, please contact Mr. Ganus several days before the Christmas concert.

Region Band participants
You will need your uniform ready by Saturday, December 10th.
You will wear them at the Region Band Concert that evening.

Spring Trip 2007

Aledo Middle School Band
Spring Trip - 2007

Denton/San Antonio/Fiesta Texas/& Beyond!

We are excited to announce details for our 2007 Spring Trip. This year's spring trip will be unlike anything that we have ever undertaken before.

Here is a sketch of what we will be doing:

Friday, May 4 - Contest Performance/ UNT Campus & Meal at the Magic Time Machine (Addison).

Saturday, May 5 - Full day of Fun at Fiesta Texas in San Antonio.

We are spreading our contest trip over two days. We will be participating in the Lonestar Showcase of Music Festival on the UNT Campus on Friday, May 4th. This will be a bit more formal of a festival than we have ever participated in before. To roundoff our day, once we are done competing, we will head to Addison and have a meal at the Magic Time Machine (an amazingly fun restaurant). Our fun will continue early in the morning on Saturday, May 5th as we board motorcoaches and head south to San Antonio for a full day in the park.

The total price of this year's trip will be $150 per student. Chaperones will be free. Mr. Ganus will be keeping individual accounts for each student's trip. All of the money earned from the Fall Fundraiser will go to the students who sold items.

A deposit of $50.00 is required of all students by December 1, 2006. A second deposit of $50.00 will be due on February 1st, 2007 and the final deposit of $50.00 will be due on March 1, 2007. Parents may pay for the trip in full at any time.

ONE WORD OF WARNING: Students who are not eligible at the time of the trip are, by law, not allowed to attend. Refunds will not be possible after April 1st.

Special Circumstances:

Season Passes:

If you are planning on being a season pass holder for Six Flags Over Texas, your pass will get you into Fiesta Texas for free. Your spring trip cost will be reduced by $20.00 when you bring Mr. G a photocopy of your Season Pass. You will need to turn your actual season pass into Mr. Ganus by May 1st for the trip (you will get it back once we arrive at the park).
